Weekly Report: September 22nd - September 28th 2025

The Week in Summary:

  • The week was full of more training, but at least there was a single day with a lot of movement and I appreciated that quite a lot. Outside of work, I mostly listened to some new music, played Victoria 3, went to the cafe with Rand, and tried to do a bit of maintenance of my computer (which is difficult when I don't understand how these fucking things work still).
  • On Friday evening, after my eye exam (apparently the eyes are doing pretty good), I went to Critical Mass and we rode around the inner suburbs of NW Calgary for a couple hours before flying down Centre Ave into Chinatown and ending our ride down at the newly-completed Eau Claire Plaza. The highlight for me was corking 16th Ave NW and that now stands as the largest corking I've assisted with!
  • On Saturday morning, Alexis, Krystal, and I hiked along Chester Lake Loop for much of the day to see the larches, but we were also blessed to see a few pikas and Canada Jays along the way! Afterwards, we had dinner at Bonjour Saigon! For Sunday, Taylor and I went down to the trans rights protest at City Hall Plaza to show our opposition to the provincial government's ongoing assault on trans youth. Despite the brisk wind, it was a fairly good turnout! Afterwards, we biked down to Kensington for awhile, before returning home to relax for the rest of the evening.
  • As for reading, I got a sporadic amount done, but nothing too sizeable. Most of my attention was focused on Paradox Interactive's two newly-released expansions this week. There was Shadows of the Shroud for Stellaris, but I played Victoria 3 mostly. Their recent expansion, National Awakening, has provided a bunch of new flavour to the Balkan region. I started as Serbia and gained independence from the Ottomans, but I have been having trouble with crashes, so I put it aside to wait for hotfixes.
  • Also, Geese released Getting Killed on Friday and I have kept it on the record player since we picked it up. There was so much fucking hype for this album and it delivered big time! Look, this is a strong contender for personal AOTY. Listen to this!
