Weekly Report: April 28th - May 4th 2025
The Week in Summary:
- Let's get the Election Day out of the way. I voted after work and got free ice cream from Made By Marcus for fulfilling my civil duty! Taylor and I hosted an election night get-together with chili and nachos (Super Bowl-style). Ang, Katelyn, Alexis, and Krystal came over. There were plenty of snacks, crafts, and election-night bingo to be played (the bingo made my night - thanks Katelyn!). As far as the results go, it is what it is. The saddest part of the night is how the federal New Democrats were effectively sacrificed by the electorate, yet the Liberals could not get the 172+ seats needed for a majority government. But enough about politics!
- The work week was full of lots of change with new coworkers and student teachers starting on Monday. There has never been this many folks on the team. I love novelty!
- Over the week, I went to cafes with friends, got a lot of reading done (started Sophie Gilbert's Girl on Girl: How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves), and played Oblivion Remastered some more.
- The weekend was largely a continuation of my weekdays with the exception of volunteering for Nature Calgary's 68th Street Wetland clean-up. Effectively 68th Street Wetland land is an open field with a bunch of stormwater ponds that migratory birds find great use for. Unfortunately, a nearby landfill results in a bunch of Calgary's garbage blowing into this area. It was fairly hot with little shade, but my partner and I got several bags within the three hours. Also, I think I have a better understanding of microplastics after picking up a bag - only for it to disintegrate before my eyes.
