Weekly Report: August 12th - August 18th 2024
The Week in Summary:
- I continued to have a cold into the early part of this week, so I took Monday and Tuesday off work to rest. I had a lot of herbal tea, napped a bit, listened to a bunch of records, and got some reading done.
- Got to spend lots of times with by buddies, Dylan and Avery, finishing Chained Together. For the weekend, we started working on a base in a fairly brutal Rust server.
- On Friday night, Taylor's uncle Dan took us out for dinner at Tibet Kitchen for a belated anniversary dinner. We have really enjoyed Tibet Kitchen since first having it back several months ago (after my wisdom teeth extraction), so it's nice to be able to share this with other folks.
- For Saturday, I ended up working at the science centre to prepare and support a few insect taxidermy workshops. I always appreciate opportunities for novelty at my job and this certainly provided that.
- I woke up exhausted and anxious on Sunday. After heading down to Kensington to read and get a black bean burger at Flipp'n Burgers, my mood started to turn around. Throughout the rest of the day, Taylor and I did some catch up with cleaning, listened to some music, and had pizza for dinner.
Recommendations:
- The weird world of wasps and why we should worry if they are on the wane by Helena Horton (Article): A look into the biodiversity of wasps, their decline, and what that means for pollination.
- Regenesis: Feeding the World Without Devouring the Planet by George Monbiot (Book): Monbiot writes about the ecological crisis continuing to emerge with expansion of dangerous and unsustainable agricultural practices. He takes the reader on a journey towards reconciling the balance between our need for healthy and accessible foods, and the ecological security of the planet.
