Weekly Report: August 18th - August 24th 2025
The Week in Summary:
- The week was busy with Taylor working long hours as their team closes in on festival season (the flag was raised on Saturday!). This left me holding down the condo most of the week. On Monday, I stayed home most of the day reading and listening to vinyl, but I also made a Sun-Dried Tomato & Butter Bean Stew for dinner (and leftovers). For Tuesday, Avery (who was in the city visiting) and I went shopping, had dinner at Class Clown, and hung out at my place. For Wednesday (after doing Paws, Claws, and Stars with Alexis in Cochrane all day), Taylor and I hosted a battalion of administrative volunteers. It was successful thanks to so many folks we consider dear. As the volunteer session was happening, I got to see Taylor on CBC doing an interview and I am honestly so fucking proud of them.
- For Saturday, I mostly stayed at home throughout the day, though I did a few errands in Kensington after biking around the downtown core. I went to Pages to pick up a book (a book on geology) and have tea at Oolong Tea House (picked up a herbal tea as well).
- On Sunday, Alexis and I joined Alberta Wilderness Association for a trip out to Plateau Mountain Ecological Reserve in Kananaskis Country. We started by learning about whitebark pine and the prominent threats these trees face, but also how conservation efforts are working to protect this long-living species in the region. Afterwards, we went to explore the plateau itself. This was honestly so fucking cool and I feel so blessed that I got to experience this wondrous parts of Alberta with one of my closest friends. I'll likely blog about this later, but suffice to say, it was transcendental to be on this land. Afterwards, we went to Kensington Pub, where I got Bangers and Mash, as well as a peppermint tea.
- As far as reading is concerned, I finished Nan Shepherd's The Living Mountain and Marc Berman's Nature and the Mind: The Science of How Nature Improves Cognitive, Physical, and Social Well-Being. I also started getting more into reading Dorian Lynskey's Everything Must Go: The Stories We Tell About The End Of The World.
- For video games, I played Age of Wonders 4 (especially with their recent DLC) and Peak (which I actually beat with Katelyn!). In regards to the latter, it's a cooperative climbing/platformer game with daily procedural-generated challenges. I am really digging it and I only played twice now.
