Weekly Report: December 9th - December 15th 2024

The Week in Summary:

  • Most of the week was fairly slow in the lead up to a more social weekend. I need to get a new audiobook to vibe with for those evenings where I want to play a mindless game.
  • On Thursday evening, Taylor and I hosted Alexis, Katelyn, and Angela over for an early Christmas Dinner Party. We had some mashed potatoes, seitan stew, a vegan roast, roasted vegetables, and butternut squash. After dinner, we had ginger molasses cookies and a snicker doodle bundt cake (Taylor baked them earlier in the day). and watched the Game Awards 2024. I was really excited to see Elden Ring Nightreign and Blackfrost The Long Dark II, but more than those I was really touched by the Amir Satvat winning the Gamechanger Award (what a great dude). Additionally, Larian Studios Swen Vincke speech near the end of the night before the GOTY was awarded was a spectacular defense of video games as an avenue for creativity. He rightfully scorned the profit-hungry corporate folks as the ridiculous parasites they are.
  • On Friday evening, we went down to the Market Collective with Katelyn and Angela to check out the market stalls. We picked up some gin from Confluence Distillery, tea blends, chili pepper oil, and cocktail bitters. Based on what a couple artists and merchants said, Friday is fairly slow compared to Saturday and Sunday, so coming here when we did was a good choice. Like last year, it was a excellent evening activity to get out of the house.
  • Over the weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, I hung out at home playing games, listening to music, and posting the Chance's Choice Awards. The only time I really went out was on Saturday night, when we went out with friends to Calgary Court Restaurant for Alexis and her friend's birthday party. Afterwards, we went to Mama Dessert to satisfy our sweet tooth (I had mango ice cream with shaved ice). Happy Birthday to Alexis! Quarter of a century old now!
  • I played a few different games. Just like last week, I spent a couple evenings with my friends playing Lethal Company. I also started playing the new Path of Exile 2 that was just released into early access. I think it's really good so far. There is a lot of replayability to be found in the game with the build diversity I am seeing so far, though I do notice a lot of stability issues with sporadic server disconnections and stuttering. Additionally, I played a bit of No Man's Sky's recent expedition and started Cyberpunk 2077 again.
