Weekly Report: January 27th - February 2nd 2025

The Week in Summary:

  • Given recent challenges with my mental health, my work gave me grace and provided me time to recover over the course of this week. In the last week, Taylor and I have made tremendous changes to our lifestyle that have changed our well being for the better. Much of these changes have been oriented around establishing proper sleep hygiene through maintaining a consistent (and unwavering) sleep schedule, taking time to wind down before bed, changing my relationship with caffeine, ending habitual cannabis use, and keeping electronics out of our bedroom. These are fairly big changes, but consequently, I have been getting a solid 8+ hours of sleep every night and I am feeling rewarded with the benefits of that routine.
  • Additionally, after talking with my family doctor earlier this week, I begun on a new medication that has given me a lot of hope for my general well-being. As far as first impressions go, with this medication, I feel like I am no longer "drifting" through life. I have an unprecedented level of agency.
  • Given my time away from work this week, I started doing daily morning yoga with Taylor, got a bunch of major cleaning tasks completed, finished a blog post on No Man's Sky, started reading a book on the Byzantine Empire, went to the cafe with Rand, and played Age of Empires IV with Taylor and James.
  • In other news, the United States is imposing a 25% tariff on Canadian goods and I feel fine. A few weeks ago, I would have been irritate and anxious, but I feel calm in this face of this ridiculous disruption to continental trade. In any case, I am proud of the federal response to these tariffs. If the U.S. wants a trade war - we'll give them a trade war.
