Weekly Report: July 21st - July 27th 2025
The Week in Summary:
- Throughout the work week, I continued working at my summer desk job and it worked out well enough (thank goodness I have a standing desk at home). As for the weekday evenings, I have been working on reading a few books (I should finish a couple this upcoming week is my hope) and playing a lot of Crusader Kings III.
- On Friday evening, Alida (a new friend I met at mahjong night), Taylor, and I went to Calgary's monthly Critical Mass ride. For this ride, due to the killing of a cyclist on July 11th, we rode out to the site of the incident to place a ghost bike to memorialize their passing. Our city deserve safe bike infrastructure to ensure folks can work, play, and live in our neighbourhoods without fear that a motorist will cut their life short. The ride, whilst somber at times, was marked by a wet and wild joy as well. Though cold and a bit soaked, we all stopped to get pizza on 17th Ave afterwards and chatted for a bit!
- On Saturday, visitors came to visit us from B.C. We showed them our neighbourhood, stopped at Alumni for dinner, and enjoyed games in the evening (including Balatro and Chess). For Sunday, after I went out for a morning bike ride in the rain, we all went to Jan and James' place to join the family for board games (Rand, Dan, and I played a board game called tableau builder called Earth) and had Chinese delivery for dinner.
- In regards to the weather, I am really liking how rainy, humid, and cool it has been, especially compared to recent summers on the prairies. Not only should this alleviate drought conditions a bit, if I am being honest, it has been making bike commuting even more enjoyable.
