Weekly Report: July 29th - August 4th 2024

The Week in Summary:

  • Over the week, Taylor and I have been learning and playing Go. I've heard of it before, and read about it recently, but a recommendation from a buddy of mine pushed me to give it a go (Frank Lantz wrote about it in the Beauty of Games too). It's been a lot of fun, but it is a steep learning process to figure out strong strategies to win.
  • This week I have been avoiding coffee to try and relax my nerves a bit. I've been replacing it with green tea (mostly matcha) and it has been making relaxing a lot easier during the evenings.
  • Given the provincial government's insistence on using the state to deny free expression to trans youth, I attended a protest with a buddy of mine on Friday morning at the McDougall Centre. My best estimates were around 60-70 attendees, which made it odd how many police officers were protecting the building (between 12-15). Afterwards, I worked at Waves Coffeehouse for the rest of the day before playing Rust in the evening whilst Taylor's friends were over playing D&D.
  • On Saturday morning, Alexis and I went to Edworthy Park/Douglas-Fir Trail for a botanical excursion. It was a great opportunity to use my new hand lens outdoors. For more details, refer to my first nature journal entry! For lunch, we went to Bonjour Saigon for some Vietnamese food and it was excellent. Throughout the rest of the day, I listened to music and played games with my buddy. On Sunday, I had a fairly similar day as the day prior, but I managed to get a bunch of reading done.
  • Dylan and I have been playing Rust over the weekend. We are on a fairly relaxed server, which is good considering the try-hard toxic players I often run into. We are working on building a train station, because regardless of politics, trains are cool as hell.
