Weekly Report: June 23rd - June 29th 2025

The Week in Summary:

  • With no scheduled workshops for school groups, much of the work week was dedicated to cleaning up the classrooms and doing inventory of our school programs. This was very understimulating. Additionally, our education team went to D6 on Thursday to celebrate the school year. There was a lot of interesting drinks there and that allowed for the uncharted territory of combining espresso and matcha to be explored (worth it). Jeff also taught me and others how to play Poker and made it very accessible to learn - which I appreciate.
  • For most of Friday, I spent my time reading, playing Kingdom Come Deliverance, and getting a Cuban from Munch on 17th Ave. Later in the evening, I went to the monthly Critical Mass bike ride, but this time I had company: Katelyn and Tim! The ride was around 20 km through the downtown area (as usual), but ended at Riley Park this time. Afterwards, Katelyn and I got fruit smoothies from Purr Tea just off Tomkins Park.
  • On Saturday, I went on a bike ride, played Age of Empires IV, and read all day. Outside of those familiar weekend activities, Taylor and I made bagels for the first time! It was easier than I thought it would be!
  • On Sunday, Taylor and I went for a bike ride to start the day. We met up with Alexis at And Some Flowers Cafe. Similar to D6, they had a lot of novel beverages as well, but also mutated croissant of sorts called a "Crookie." After stopping in Kensington, we came home and puttered around for the afternoon. Taylor did a bit of work in the cren, whilst I finished reading Liz Pelly's Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist.

Spotify Deserves the Hate. But Don’t Forget the Major Labels.
Spotify’s excesses — ghost artists, boring mood playlists, and AI — don’t indicate some evil inherent to streaming. They stem from the major labels’ effective oligarchy over the music industry.
