Weekly Report: June 30th - July 6th 2025

The Week in Summary:

  • I had Monday and Tuesday off this week. On Monday, Taylor and I went on a 30 kilometer bike ride along the Bow River Pathway up to Northwest Calgary. We checked out Bowmont Park's gorgeous vista, the Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs, and Dale Hodges Park (a personal recent favourite - especially with the yellow-headed blackbird we seen). During our outing, we also stopped at Euphoria Cafe for a lunch (Anatolian Sausage Sandwich, a Cinnamon Bun, and a Pistachio Rose Latte for myself). For the rest of the day, I finished reading Judith Herrin's Byzantium: The Surprising Life of a Medieval Empire (after months of putting it aside). On Tuesday (Canada Day), Taylor and I stayed at home and took it easy. The heat and UV was too much to head out, so we tried out R.E.P.O. with our friends and lounged around for much of the day.
  • The first week of my summer contract at the science centre went well. Last summer, working at the computer was fairly challenging, but the medication I am on is giving me a bit of help in that department, though I do have to be mindful of getting enough exercise in keep me sane. Other than that, nothing too extraordinary happened over the work week - just the regular stuff.
  • Over the weekend, as Calgary Stampede kicked off across the city (lots of Western wear and drunk folks on e-scooters), I played a lot of Crusader Kings III (like seriously - hours), read a few chapters of Richard M. Eaton's India in the Persianate Age, 1000–1765, had a bike rack installed on my Marin, and went for a longer bike ride with Katelyn along the Bow River Pathway (muscle soreness after that ride).
