Weekly Report: June 9th - June 15th 2025

The Week in Summary:

  • For much of the week, I was sick with a cold with a dry cough, irritated throat, and body aches. Making matters worse was the persistently dreadful air quality issues due to the wildfire smoke. A seasonal cold and very unhealthy AQHI does not contribute to a good week, but I did my best to make the best of it, which included lots of warm baths and many cups of herbal teas (including some loose leaf delivered by Alexis <3). Additionally, I got some reading done (finished Judith Scheele's Shifting Sands: A Human History of the Sahara and started Robert Macfarlane's Is A River Alive?), and played a dozen games of Balatro (even beat it once).
  • On Saturday, Alexis, Taylor, and I went to Weaselhead Flats in the morning to look for a calliope hummingbird. AND ALEXIS FOUND THIS MAJESTIC BEAST! Afterwards, I finished writing my nature journal entry for last weekend and tried Munch's fantastically greasy Brooklyn Chopped Cheese.
  • On Sunday, Taylor and I joined Jan, James, and the rest of the family for Father's Day. For lunch, I had a stupendous rare steak and green salad. Later in the evening, Taylor and I played a free-for-all Age of Empires IV match with James, Dylan, and Avery - which is always a lively affair!
  • As an additional note, for the first time in my life as a bike commuter, someone attempted to steal my bike. I locked my bike up at the bike rack in front of Shelflife to run in and pick up a couple new books when I noticed that - within 5 minutes - someone had attempted to rip the bike's wheel off (I had been a little cavalier with how I locked it). Thankfully, my lock is absurdly tough, but I did have to readjust my bike's handlebars.
