Weekly Report: November 25th - December 1st 2024

The Week in Summary:

  • Compared to last week, everything moved at a much slower pace. The first week of being a thirty-something did not feel very different. Duly Noted.
  • On Monday, I decided to go to Telus to upgrade my Samsung S10+ to a Pixel 9 Plus. Though I find Pixel's recent push into AI bullshit insufferable (like I find all AI bullshit), I do appreciate the lack of useless bloatware on the device compared to other Android counterparts. Additionally, I love the phenomenal photos it can take and its integration within the Google ecosystem. The worst part of setting up a new phone is getting all the fucking passwords imputed in.
  • Given the new phone, I also went to move my note-taking from Obsidian to Notion this week. It has been taking a bit of getting use to, but Taylor (and some videos online) have been getting me caught up to speed. Additionally, I have been using Blue Sky more recently and it reminds me of Twitter before Elon Musk fucked it all up. I would be interested in how it compares to micro.blog.
  • This is also the week that I started my Christmas shopping. Most of it was surprisingly completed this week, but there are still a few more folks to make or buy gifts for.
  • For the weekend, I stayed at home and just enjoyed the good vibes. I played a bunch of Dark Souls (using my blessed Zweihander) and started listening to When the Clock Broke: Con Men, Conspiracists, and How America Cracked Up in the Early 1990s by John Ganz. I did go out for breakfast on Friday morning to Galaxie Diner for a breakfast sandwich and some hashbrowns. For a Sunday dinner, Taylor made roasted cauliflower lentil curry from Pick Up Limes.

Thousands of people with severe mental illness have been failed by a dysfunctional system. My friend Michael was one of them. Twenty-five years ago, he killed the person he loved most.
