Weekly Report: September 15th - September 21st 2025
The Week in Summary:
- Work continued with more training. Subsequently, this has resulted in more sitting (and therefore more restlessness). It's weeks like this that remind me of why I spent my time between college lectures pacing around campus and smoking cigarillos - rather than studying. Thank goodness I stopped smoking tobacco a decade ago.
- The weekday evenings have been worthwhile though. On Tuesday, Taylor and I set up a new shelving unit in our laundry room (thanks Alexis for helping!) - finally resolving that chronically disorganized space. On Thursday, Katelyn, Ang, and Alexis came over for charcuterie and games (we tried a card game called Red Flag). On Friday, Taylor and I joined Alida for an evening bike ride to Bridgeland for ice cream.
- For the weekend, I spend much of the time reading at cafes, biking along the Bow River, playing chess, and getting household chores done (including trying to track down a winter commuter bicycle for Taylor). Outside of that, I went down to city hall for a climate protest on Saturday afternoon.
- As for reading, I finished reading Sam Bloch's Shade: The Promise of a Forgotten Natural Resource. It was really interesting to read about all the unique solutions other cities, like Singapore and Barcolona, have adopted to respond the issues of heating in urban centres. Additionally, I got through half of Marcia Chatelain's Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America.
- And of course, this week, compared to the hotter weeks prior, earnestly felt like autumn with all of the rustling yellow leaves, the brisk wind, and all the cafes' pumpkin-spice cafe offerings.
