Weekly Report: September 16th - September 22nd 2024
The Week in Summary:
- With Beakerhead happening during the weekend, I was given Monday and Tuesday off. During those days, I hung out around the house listening to some records, playing video games, and just getting some relaxation in before the hectic week to come.
- Beakerhead has been a part of Calgary since 2013 and this was its first year at Telus Spark. Throughout most of the week, I was working with my coworkers to get prepared for and deliver a bunch of programming for the weekend festivities. I supported a collaborative and sustainable arts activity for the three days. There was a lot of paint, recyclables, crafting tools and supplies, but above all, there was a heck of a lot of joyful mess. In any case, I absolutely adored getting to know folks from outside our science educator team. We have so many creative, bright, and kind folks here. On another note, given how active I was during the day, my feet and ankles were in quite a bit of pain once I got home, so I am going to have to consider possibly getting new shoes.
- After several weeks of water restrictions, they were finally lifted this Sunday. I am so appreciative of our local government and its leadership during this entire ordeal, but the real kudos goes to the folks doing the water main repairs. In any case, It has been a long time coming and I'm glad that we can finally starting doing a bit of catch up with laundry and dishes.
- Throughout the evenings, I've been playing Age of Empires 4 and Isonzo. I haven't been in the mood for strategy games lately, though the release of Frostpunk 2 might change that. The game looks incredible!
Recommendations:
- Isonzo by BlackMill Games (Game): Isonzo is a gritty, yet picturesque, first-person shooter based on the brutal alpine warfare that defined the Battles of Isonzo between Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces during the First World War. I really appreciate the teams' earnest commitment to depicting the authentic nature of this warfare. It was a brutal massacre and we have European political and military leadership to thank for the unceremonious slaughter of these young men. For more information on the conflict, here is a link.
