Weekly Report: September 23rd - September 29th 2024

The Week in Summary:

  • You can really feel the seasons change this week. We are in the full swing into autumn and I could not be happier. Summer was definitely better than I thought it would be, but I am excited for the golden-hue of the city's canopy, warm vegetable stews on gloomier evenings, and cooler temperatures. Let's hope our autumn isn't ruined by the stress of another federal election.
  • It has been a fairly varied week with camps and training, but I was really happy to be able to deliver the program I worked to develop over the summer for the first time. There are certainly some improvements to be made, but I am glad that the kids enjoyed their time with our botanical friends.
  • With Roads to Power (the latest Crusader Kings 3 expansion) released on Tuesday, I spent a good amount of hours getting familiarized with the new mechanics. I think the expansion is the best DLC released by Paradox Interactive in years and it will give me hundreds of hours of play.
  • On Saturday morning, Taylor and I had breakfast at Galaxy Diner. Throughout the rest of the day, I hung out at home playing a bit of Remnant 2 and puttering around. For Sunday, Taylor, Krystal, Alexis, and I drove out to Kananaskis to check out the Golden Larch. The parking lots were packed at the popular Larch hiking trails, so we went hiking Elbow Lake Trail instead. Lots of fir trees, wind gusts, and rain. You can read more about it here! Afterwards we went to Bonjour Saigon for Vietnamese food. For the rest of the day, Taylor and I hung out at home playing video games and listening to 90s rock.

Recommendations:

  • Roads to Power (Crusader Kings 3) by Paradox Interactive (Video Game Expansion): The expansion provides a complete overhaul to the Byzantine Empire (and Byzantine flavour), an event chain for the Fourth Crusade, a new start date of 1178, an entirely new system for players to be landless adventurers, an administrative government system, and of course, an abundance of beautiful cosmetics (with a kickass imperial soundtrack). Paradox Interactive has leveled the fuck up here. Like seriously.
