Weekly Report: September 30th - October 6th 2024
The Week in Summary:
- For Truth and Reconciliation Day, Taylor and I went down to the Confluence to check out the museum exhibits (which were free for the public) to learn about the colonization of southern Alberta (namely the signing of Treaty 7). We are really appreciative of the steps that the Confluence is taking to meet the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
- I had a dental appointment booked for Thursday morning to get a filling done on one of my molars. Around midnight on Wednesday night, I was flossing my teeth and that same fucking tooth came out. After calling 811, they suggested that despite the lack of pain, we should go to urgent care, but once we got there, the nurse suggested we just go home instead (there was a 7 hour waiting period and no dentists were on site). I had a horrible anxious night attempting to get to sleep. I went to the dentist first thing and they put a dome-shaped filling over the missing tooth. This is a temporary solution and I will require a dental implant (as I am still young) down the line. This will cost around $4,500 dollars and my dental insurance does not cover it. Long story short, I want dental care in this country.
- This week, I started a new habit of maintaining a gratitude journal. Before I go to bed, I write down three things from the day that I am grateful for in my Leuchtturm notebook. It has been a really good habit so far.
- After many years of pestering, I have begrudgingly acquiesced to Taylor's advice that I purchase higher quality shoes. I stand on my feet all day at work, and have lots of ankle pain as a result. After some research, I decided to go for a new pair of Hoka running shoes with ample cushioning which will serve me well at work, and if I decide to take up jogging.
- Taylor's lovely aunt came to visit Calgary this weekend. On Saturday morning, we all went for brunch at the Porch on 17th. We spend the afternoon shooting the shit and playing a game of Carcassone before having some Rio Pizza for dinner. For the rest of the night, I was in Discord with Krystal, Avery, and Dylan, with the former two playing Rust with me. The following day, we went out to Taylor's parents' place to hang out, go for a walk in the neighbourhood, and have a mighty feast.
