Weekly Report: September 9th - September 15th 2024

The Week in Summary:

  • Taylor and I have been playing a lot of Age of Empires IV over the past week. We played some games with Avery and Taylor's dad, but most of the time, it has been just the two of us against the AI. Additionally, I have been playing a bit of Dark Souls and it has been really difficult (as advertised). I finally beat the Capra Demon on Sunday morning.
  • Throughout much of the week, we had a lot of rain and temperatures are starting to go down. It seems like we are moving from Summer to Autumn fairly briskly, which I really appreciate. I am really excited about birdwatching this autumn, I want to spot more migratory warblers and shorebirds. Additionally, I'd like to go see the larches change colour next month.
  • Taylor and I went over to their parents' on Friday to celebrate their grandmother's 80th birthday. The following morning, we went down to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary at dawn to to go birdwatching, identify plants, and enjoy some quiet time outdoors. Afterwards, we stopped at Silk Road Spice Market and went the Vegan Street with their parents. For the rest of Saturday we hung out at home and order Happy Veggie House for dinner.
  • On Sunday, Taylor, Krystal, Alexis, and I went to Weaselhead Flats for a bit of a hike. A lot of the trails were muddy and flooded, but we had a good time exploring! We got to see a Mountain Chickadee, which I have never seen before! Afterwards, we went to a few shops on 4th St SW for some coffee and snacks (including Añejo for chips and salsa).

Recommendations:

  • Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers (Album): This is some of the best melancholic indie folk out there (which is a lot recently). I have been listening to this album for years now (ever since she did a cover of Bo Burham's That Funny Feeling) and this album seems to be on constant rotation at our place. I adore how utterly sincere she is. Personal highlights from the album include songs like: Kyoto, Chinese Satellite, Garden Song, and I Know the End.
  • To Autumn by John Keats (Poem): Just a nice poem about autumn.
