✨ Happenings

  • As far as the weather is concerned, this was a week of high winds, budding trees, and occasional snowfall. It has been a late spring, but the snow is welcome – even if I am restless to ride my fixed gear bike.
  • For the weekdays, I worked my regular shifts and kept my day-to-day fairly normal with everyday bike commuting, reading, and playing some good ol' Marathon. On Tuesday, Katelyn and I went bouldering in the evening (which is becoming a more consistent weekday evening activity). For Thursday evening, Rand, Taylor, and I went for coffee at Good Earth Cafe and chatted for a few hours.
  • On Friday, Alexis and I joined a Nature Calgary group for an outing at Carburn Park. Given the high winds, the group was cautious to avoid any treefall, but we did see a common loon! Afterwards we went to Class Clown for lunch, then went to my lovely local Butterblock Bakery + Cafe to chat about the plans for the upcoming month. For the rest of the day, as the wind howled downtown (bringing down a nearby tree on our avenue), so Taylor and I stayed home to read and finish the last of Astro Bot.
  • On Saturday, Taylor, Alexis, and I went to Paradigm Spark for beverages and a morning chat. In the early afternoon, Taylor and I joined Katelyn, Ang, Alida, Mark, and Katelyn's friend from Winnipeg for bouldering (there was an odd V3 that I believed I would not be able to do, but ended up getting finally). For dinner, we got empanadas at the nearby Unimarket (they had a great weekend deal on Chilean and Peruvian empanadas). I played Marathon for the rest of the night!
  • After a morning bike ride and some reading on the couch, Bilan and I met up for lunch and coffee at Frida's Coffee Home to discuss the rules of tennis and how the court works. We stopped at Canadian Tire to pick me up a racquet and some suspiciously affordable tennis balls – then played at Inglewood Courts for an hour to get me acquainted with the sport. Later in the evening, I played Marathon, read a bit more, and kept looking up tennis online.
  • For books, I started reading Cate Osborn and Erik Gude's The ADHD Field Guide for Adults, as well as Fortesa Latifi's Like, Follow, Subscribe: Influencer Kids and the Cost of a Childhood Online.
  • As for video games, Taylor and I beat Astro Bot this week (very cute whimsical game). I also, as per every week of April, continued to play Marathon.

👣 Taylor's Footnotes

  • Not much to add this week! Fortunately (for the most part) I was able to participate in this week's activities.
  • Pride had a booth at Comic Expo in Calgary this week. We got thrown in a closed door room on the second floor though, so not much fun. I didn't get a chance to walk around sadly, but it's inspired me to genuinely plan to attend it next year. Maybe I'll even figure out an outfit!
  • The wild weather we had ruined my first Friday off work sadly. I woke up with a migraine that didn't fully leave until about 4pm. Which might have been in time to go to Critical Mass (the giant bike ride/protest that happens the last Friday of every month) if it wasn't for the weather as well! It wrecked my plans to go hang out with my lovely parents for the day - I can only hope that next Friday will work out better.
  • On Saturday at climbing, I cleared my first V1! As an absolute beginner, I am pretty proud of it. Getting past the fear is half the battle.
  • I spent pretty much all of Sunday making a bunch of new recipes - banana tahini muffins, granola & cranberry energy balls, and samosa sweet potato breakfast wraps.
  • I am grateful to Chance and Alexis for figuring out so many plans for the coming month - we have so many lovely outings ahead!
