Weeknotes: August 17th - August 23rd 2026
Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.
✨ Happenings
- On Monday and Tuesday, I had my last two days working at the science centre and it was rather bittersweet – as life transitions often are. I am very excited for the new opportunities on the horizon in the CBE, but I am going to miss my adored coworkers. Such is life!
- Friday was a really difficult day for our family. We spent most of the day with our loved ones at the Celebration of Life and service for Taylor's Grandpa.
- Beyond those two work days and Gary's Celebration of Life, my week was free to get up to different outings with folks. On Monday evening, I joined Jan and James for a Vine & Dine night at Sot in Inglewood for some wonderful Korean-inspired six-course meal with wine pairings. For Tuesday's evening, Katelyn and I went bouldering in the evening and got ice cream afterwards. On Thursday, Alexis and I went to University District to explore the nascent neighbourhood (got some bubble tea, coffee, and burgers there too). On Sunday, Jan and James stopped by for lunch and to help us out with a condo upgrade (we also picked up a new desktop monitor for myself at Memory Express).
- When I was not out with folks, I was at home playing video games (mostly Gallipoli), reading about modern Iranian political history on the balcony, going on bike rides, listening to some new vinyl (My Bloody Valentine and Fugazi), and hanging out at cafes.
- For reading, I started reading Yeganeh Torbati and Bozorgmehr Sharafedin's Stolen Revolution: Betrayal and Hope in Modern Iran. As for video games, I continued playing Dark Souls II: Scholars of the First Sin and started playing Gallipoli.

👣 Taylor's Footnotes
- This was a really difficult week. I have been floating over unsteady ground for awhile. And I don't think I am ready yet to share about my grandpa. I never publicly wrote anything after my other two grandparents passed away. Heck, I never wrote anything after my wedding either for that matter. On Facebook, I think I set one photo from it on my background profile pic. I hope to write something more some day.
- As I did last week though, I do want to share gratitude for all the friends and family near and far who reached out, through calls, or texts, or letters. It was all seen, and all deeply felt. Thank you so much for your love.
- Some of my favourite pictures of my Grandpa.

Coneheads for Halloween! Halloween is and was a big thing in my family. This is just one year that everyone put on silly costumes in our front hall. Grandpa's conehead didn't fit right, so we had to bandage it on lol! They all dressed up like this to hand out candy that my Grandpa would "enlarge" with a sneaky little turnstile on the back of this grey and tubey contraption!
