Weeknotes: February 16th - February 22nd 2026

Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.

✨ Happenings

  • I received word from my mom that my childhood dog, Dan Dan, passed away after a seizure. It made a hard Friday harder, but I find comfort in the fact that Dan Dan lived a playful and free life. That's more than a lot of us achieve. I am saddened I will never see his wonderful presence again. 💙
  • After weeks of abnormally warm temperatures and no snowfall, winter conditions returned and provided much needed frostiness to Calgary. As per tradition, bike lanes were fucked on the first couple days of snowfall, but the city government got it taken care of quick enough.
  • On Family Day, Taylor and I spent the day at their parent's place playing Twilight Imperium with the family over the course of around eight hours. The recent expansion, Thunder's Edge, added new factions to play and a new planet to conduct expeditions too. I eventually won with a lot of diplomatic support with the peaceful research-driven Deepwrought Scholarate.
  • On Thursday, it was our team lead's last day and the staff went to JinBar in Bridgeland to celebrate Amy's new position and wish them well in the next step for their career. Good luck and soar high, Amy!
  • The weekend was relatively lowkey. I spent nearly the entirety of Saturday reading Eamon Dolan's The Power of Parting: Finding Peace and Freedom Through Family Estrangement. For the afternoon, I went to the Memorial Park Library to pick up some books I had on hold, so I managed to sneak a brief bike ride in. For Sunday, Alexis and I went to Carburn Park in the morning for a chilly walk. We seen a bunch of white-tailed deer nestled in the bush and lots of Trumpeter Swans up near the Bow River's shoreline – both of which were very cool to see. Afterwards, we went to Bonjour Saigon for lunch. I got the Mama Hoa “Hangover” Fried Rice and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee.
  • For books, I finished reading Eamon Dolan's The Power of Parting: Finding Peace and Freedom Through Family Estrangement and started reading Susan Wise Bauer's The Great Shadow: A History of How Sickness Shapes What We Do, Think, Believe, and Buy. I also continued playing DOOM: The Dark Ages with Taylor.
