Weeknotes: January 26th 2026 - February 1st 2026
Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.
✨ Happenings
- With the weekdays feeling fairly mundane, I found enjoyment in the evenings by reading my books, writing my Monthly Roundup for January, and playing lots of Arc Raiders on the PlayStation (though I am too nice for the game – I need to toughen up).
- On Saturday, I biked to Inglewood/Ramsay a few times to visit Eight Ounces for espresso and got a new travel mug, then hung out around the condo for the rest of the day.
- For the first of February, Taylor and I left early Sunday morning and hopped on our bikes to try a few hot chocolate specials for Calgary's annual Hot Chocolate Festival. Here are Taylor's notes!
- We started by heading down to Maisie Eatery down by the Saddledome and got The Cloud Cocoa, described as "rich, steamy hot chocolate piled high with fluffy cherry infused whipped cream, house made cherry marshmallow, Cherry Blasters, and a bold Twizzler straw." Chance and I both appreciated the sheer creativity of this cocoa, but the cherry marshmallow really took the cake. The chocolate drink itself left something to be desired, but the toppings were incredible!
- After we moseyed down to Inglewood, with the hopes of trying Oolong Tea Shop's Matcha White Chocolate Cheesecake (of particular interest to me), but alas! The day, being a beautiful and balmy +4°C had brought everyone out, and we couldn't find a spot to sit and read. After wandering for a bit, we headed instead to Rosso Coffee Roasters for The Nana. This sadly mid-tier hot choccy is described as being "crafted with creamy white chocolate, real bananas and a hint of cinnamon," but it only made a lukewarm impression on us. Pleasant enough, but too bland for our tastes!
- Can't wait to try some more with Chance! We've got the taste now!
- We ended our Sunday afternoon out by getting lunch at Super Variety. One at home, I spent the rest of the day playing Arc Raiders and finishing my book.
- As for the books I read, I finally finished Harald Jahner's Vertigo: The Rise and Fall of Weimar Germany. Over the weekend, I blazed through Madeline Potter's The Roma: A Travelling History. Both of which were fantastic reads in their own regards. As for video games, like I continue to say, I got engrossed in Arc Raiders – a recently released extraction shooter.
- As one might notice, the Weeknotes have been more simplified recently. I have been working on and recently posted a monthly roundup of books, video games, albums, and movies I have enjoyed (or did not enjoy) from January.
