Weeknotes: July 13th - July 19th 2026
Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.
✨ Happenings
- Work continued happening, though I did hand in my notice for my last day on the 18th of August. Certainly bittersweet! Beyond work, I read magazines, played some new video games, read from various books, and watched a documentary on the making of my favourite MMORPG: Guild Wars.
- For Friday, after having coffee with Rand and getting some errands done, I biked up to Congress Coffee to go on a bike ride with Katelyn. We stopped at Bike & Brew (I got a cycling hat) and went biking around the now emptying Stampede Grounds.
- On Saturday, Alida and I biked to Bolder Climbing Community and went bouldering together. For lunch afterwards, we stopped at Unimarket to enjoy some empanadas (and pick up yerba mate). Later in the evening, Taylor and I finished playing our first game of Civilization VII together and I won an economic victory as the Mughals!
- On Sunday, Taylor and I joined Alexis for Turca Breakfast to enjoy menemen, simit, black tea, and a spread of other delights. Afterwards, we went on a brief walk around Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. Taylor and I played Civilization in the afternoon. In the evening, Jan, James, and Judy came over to celebrate my recent CBE job offer and Taylor and I's seventh wedding anniversary. They treated us to pizza from our favourite place (Cold Beer and Pizza - I know, a very descriptive name), and brought chocolate cake, strawberries, and some lovely gifts as well.
- For books, I continued reading Luke Kemp's Goliath's Curse: The History and Future of Societal Collapse. (so close to the end). As for video games, I played Sid Meier's Civilization VII with Taylor, Oblivion Remastered, and Teardown.
- I also worked on a blog post over the week: Loot, Shoot, and Exfil: Precarious Joy with Bungie's Marathon.

👣 Taylor's Footnotes
- I spent this week continuing to recover from my flu? virus? It was a bit of a slog, and I needed to return to my usual full hours.
- The AGM was a success! Barely, but we made it! We will be bringing in another cohort of 4 new board members, which is a huge win.
- I didn't trust my health until Saturday, but by then I had been feeling markedly better for a few days, and so was so happy to attend Alexis's first workshop! It was a lot of fun, and I made two super cute fish and walked away with a lovely zine! Here are the Fathead Minnow I made in the class along with two cute rainbow fish gifted by Alexis to Chance and I :)

- After the class I also checked out Good Neighbour's thrift shop in Chinatown, and would strongly recommend it. Best still, they work as a charity to provide free clothing to any community members who need them, offering no barrier free shop days. I was glad to support and will return to Good Thrift in the future.
- Chance already covered chatting about my parents and Nana coming over on Sunday, but it was truly lovely to see y'all! It's really hard finding balance in life's schedule to catch up with folks in the summer, but we really love y'all - thank you, thank you, thank you <333
- Also... Chance and I peeked a night early and yelled when we saw this delightful pop-up anniversary card. My wonderful Aunty Tricia and Uncle Mike... though distance may separate us (ah, the far lands of Ontario), we are always thinking of you too. Love you to the moon and back!!!
