Weeknotes: July 6th - July 12th 2026

Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.

✨ Happenings

  • It has been a wonderfully noisy and festive time for our city with Calgary Stampede. Even if it can get a little loud when I am trying to get sleep (like full-blown screaming), I do adore the liveliness of 17th Ave right now and some of the wacky foods being offered around.
  • With Taylor being sick throughout the entire week and my own generally low mood, it has been a more sedentary week than usual (especially because we do not want to spread this illness around). Besides going to work, I went on several bike rides, made pineapple syrup, played video games (mostly an incredible amount of Marathon), did lots of reading, and went to my therapy appointment. Other than that, not much happened, but that is life sometimes.
  • I worked on a couple blog posts over the week, including "Three Alt-Country Albums for Enjoying Calgary Stampede" and "A Summer Guide to the Espresso Tonic". I am trying to do shorter blog posts, rather than waiting for the end of the month to do these monthly round-ups.
  • For books, I continued reading Luke Kemp's Goliath's Curse: The History and Future of Societal Collapse – which is an oddly optimistic non-fiction history book so far. As for video games, I played Sid Meier's Civilization VII with Taylor and Marathon (obviously).

  • I have been through the wringer this week. I started coming down with a cold on Monday evening, which has persisted to today, and I fear it is not done with me yet. After getting three strep tests (yes - you are reading that right - THREE) I can confirm that I do not have strep throat. I was already put on antibiotics by the time of the third test (before we got the final results), so here's hoping it's some other kind of bacterial infection. :/
  • This was a bad work week as a result. Too many grants due left little time for time off. I struggled through it, but by Friday I had totally crashed out. I slept almost all day, and sadly missed Drag Me to Cowboys on Saturday. I am very very grateful that at least a few of our friends were still able to make to see THE Mother of Drag, Rupaul herself!! I saw video later that one of my favourite queens Sasha Velour became and was a blue couch for one performance - I love drag so much!
  • Also, on July 14th, we will be having our second AGM of the year for Pride - second because we did not meet quorum (the minimal threshold of membership needed to host the meeting). The irony is this - we will be attempting to pass a bylaw change to lower our quorum threshold, but we MUST make quorum at this next meeting in order to make that change. Please put a thought and a prayer out there for us, as we were only 10 members off last time ;-;
  • I was able to do nothing and go nowhere this week. Here's wishing the best for next week, and huge prayers out to the universe to protect Chance's health. He has been taking great care of me this week, which has been hugely needed. <3
