Nature Journal Entry #12: Mid-May Hike at Leseuer Ridge

Where: Leseuer Ridge

When: May 23rd 2026 (Mid-Morning to Mid-Afternoon)

Highlight: All of the Golden Bean along the ridge really popped amongst the green hills!

Taylor, Alexis, and I joined Alberta Wilderness Association for our first hike of the spring season at Leseuer Ridge. Compared to last year on this same trail, this hike worked out much better. Though the scenery was characteristically phenomenal and the company was great, the botanical bounty was delightful and brought much joy. Though the lodgepole pine and trembling aspen along the trail certainly take their space along the ridge; the wildflowers brought so much vivid colour. This is important, because given how much I need to pay attention to my foot placement, it did help me stay focused on the ground. Wildflowers included the Prairie Crocus, Golden Bean, Bonneville Shooting Star, White Point-Vetch, and Wax-leaf Beardtongue (to name a few). In any case, we maintained a fairly brisk and steady pace, so there was less time for the slow attentiveness that amateur naturalists often require.
