✨ Happenings

  • For much of the week, I worked – as one often does. In the weekday evenings, we kept busy with activities, including reading on the balcony, playing Marathon, bouldering with Katelyn, and enjoying an evening walk with Alexis after Oakberry. I also picked up my new bike helmet!
  • For Saturday, Taylor, Katelyn, Alexis, and I went to Bolder Climbing Community for bouldering (Alexis is still recovering from a recent surgery, but was there for moral support 💜). As we often found ourselves, we ended up getting empanadas at Unimarket. For much of the rest of the day, with Taylor off on their own adventure, I played Victoria 3 on the computer (which I have not been playing many games on recently).
  • On Sunday morning, Taylor, Alexis, and I went to the monthly Queer Birdwatching event at Carburn Park. We met some wonderful folks and seen so many different species of birds (including red-necked grebe, bald eagles, yellow-rumped warblers). After we went for a late lunch at Bonjour Saigon and it was phenomenal – as always. In the afternoon, I went on a 30 km bike ride to Bowmont Park and Dale Hodges Park. On the way back, I was perhaps a little aggressive passing someone else and ended up popping my rear tire (resulting in the last several kilometers being on foot). At home, Taylor was setting up to welcome their DnD group to our house after over a year apart. The gang ordered Tibet Kitchen before sitting down to play, and I spent the evening just fucking around on the computer and reading.
  • For books, I finished reading Fortesa Latifi's Like, Follow, Subscribe: Influencer Kids and the Cost of a Childhood Online and started reading Edward O. Wilsons' Tales from the Ant World. As for video games, I continued to play Marathon and tried out the latest Victoria 3 expansion (buggy and confusing mostly).

👣 Taylor's Footnotes

  • On Saturday evening, Alexis and I had tickets to see the Theatre Calgary show A Doll's House. I had missed the opportunity to go with my parents, and so was glad to see it before the show closed out. Despite premiering originally in Denmark in 1879, the play's feminist perspective and characters still resonate in 2026 (for better and worst).
  • On Sunday, I was truly overjoyed to see my DnD friends. <3 I met this lovely group of lads while at AUArts - they are truly all the most talented of artists - and truly just human people overall. Our buddy John has been living in a remote town (hamlet???) in Alberta, so we have been playing online only for over a year now. I am sadly the problem child of the group when it comes to scheduling our games (ahhhh work!!!), but they put up with me regardless. We kept playing even while Chance and I were in Winnipeg for a little over two years. We have been playing the same campaign since 2019, which is a real accomplishment for those who know DnD! Some years we have played only a few games, so I am grateful that we have been able to continue the plot with characters we have cherished for so long. Love you all!!!
