Weeknotes: April 6th - April 12th 2026
Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.
✨ Happenings
- Another spring break, but this time, courtesy of the local Catholic school board. Taylor also took the week off (with the exception of Thursday) so that we could spend some time together, and with the rest of the family. This break was spent a bit more low-key, with more time at home reading books from the public library and playing Marathon (this was an especially reoccurring activity).
- Monday started with a bike ride to the Memorial Park Library and a stop at the bike shop to get some maintenance work done on Taylor's Marin Kentfield II: Tangerine. For the rest of the day, I played Marathon and watched Dropout's Gamechanger over dinner with Taylor.
- On Tuesday, Taylor and I joined Rand and Dan for a late lunch at Mehman Indian and Hakka Chinese Cuisine in the NE. I had chicken tikka masala and it was quite good! In the evening, I went bouldering with Alida and Krystal!
- For breakfast on Wednesday, Taylor and I went to Galaxie Dinner. For much of the day, I worked on chores around the house, played Marathon, and finished reading Kim Ghattas' Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the Forty-Year Rivalry That Unraveled Culture, Religion, and Collective Memory in the Middle East.
- The following day, Taylor and I went to read at read at Qamaria Yemeni Coffee in the morning. For the rest of the day, I rode my bike, picked up new records, and played Marathon.
- Alexis and I went for a Friday morning walk along Elbow River Pathway and stopped for coffee and lunch in Mission on the way back. I biked to Eight Ounces in the early afternoon for espresso, read at home, played Marathon, and got some chores done around the house.
- On Saturday, Nyx and I went birdwatching at Carburn Park for the first proper birdwatching outing of the migration season. We seen many woodpeckers and mergansars! We stopped at Begonia Bakehouse on the way back. For the rest of the day, I puttered around the house reading and playing games, though I did squeeze a bike ride in.
- For Sunday morning, Taylor, Katelyn, and I went bouldering. Afterwards we stopped at Unimarket for empanadas (sooooooo good) and went shopping at MEC (bought hiking socks). Taylor and I chatted a bit with Taylor's Aunty Tricia on the phone as well, before wrapping up the evening spending time together, and playing Astro Bot!
- For books, I finished reading Kim Ghattas' Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the Forty-Year Rivalry That Unraveled Culture, Religion, and Collective Memory in the Middle East and half of Sam Dalrymple's Shattered Lands: Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia (which is currently an incredible read).
- As for video games, I played the hell out of Marathon all week. Though I do love Arc Raiders, this extraction shooter's combat feels so much better. Like seriously, I had a great time with the game. Taylor and I continued playing Astro Bot. Also, Taylor and I watched Malcolm in the Middle: Life Is Still Unfair - which was a lovely piece of fan service that I enjoyed.
- The Calgary city council is moving forward with repealing blanket rezoning. Our municipal housing policy should not be formulated from the tears of entitled suburban boomers crying too hard about the integrity of their sprawling nowhere neighbourhoods. Rather, it should serve the interests of renters and the unhoused – because it is common sense to prioritize the welfare of the most precarious members of our society.
- Also, big win for democracy in Hungary right now!

👣 Taylor's Footnotes
- This week off was a much needed break; both physically and emotionally. I was so lucky to be able to spend it with Chance, friends, and family. It was good to reconnect, have great conversations, and get myself moving in a more positive direction.
- Despite having some really terrible sleeps for the latter half of my week off (yay and boo new meds - we're talking between 1.5 to 4 hours multiple days in a row), I was glad at least to have some space to recoup.
- In filling in a few spaces from the week Chance mentioned up top, I played DnD with friends online Tuesday evening, spent Thursday working and attending Calgary Pride's Alphabet Mafia until midnight, spent the full day with my parents, Nana and Uncle Rand on Friday (though gosh was I sleep deprived from the night before), and on Saturday got to try out Uncle Dan's Vampire the Masquerade campaign with the gang at my parents' house.
- Yay break! Now back to our regularly scheduled programming - with a big improvement. Until things get much busier in a few months, the team at work are each going to try and work 4 days only. We're trying to build in this space now, and I am really looking forward to it. Hoping this means having some semblance of work/life balance finally to spend with my loved ones, and re-engage in some hobbies that were dropped along the way. Yay Fridays!
