Weeknotes: June 15th - June 21st 2026
Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.
✨ Happenings
- With the end of this week, I have finished my third full academic year with the science centre. It has been another wonderful year teaching students about the sciences and having fun with our educational programs. As the week went on, I continued the long arduous onboarding process to get into the local school board (here's hoping it is soon).
- On Wednesday night, Alexis, Katelyn, and I went to James Joyce Irish Pub on Stephen's Ave for dinner (I got bangers and mash). Afterwards, we went to the downtown Legion Hall for Sled Island to see Feeble Little Horse and it was a fantastically noisy (and sweat-inducing) show! Though, I do believe the band needs to reflect on hyping their love for Drake mid-show – big swing and a miss.
- Friday was the last day of school programs at the science centre. After the students left, we watched Lauren's lovely end-of-year video, then went to Monster Mini-Golf for a little putt putt, pizza, and some arcade games to celebrate! Once home, Taylor and I went to the Palace Theatre for Sled Island to watch Black Country, New Road perform. It was an exceptional show and I am so grateful that we were able to get the day passes to see them!
- On Saturday, Alida, Ang, Katelyn, Taylor, and I went bouldering for a couple hours in the morning, then we all went lunch at Unimarket for empanadas. In the afternoon, I did some chores around the condo, exchanged my library books, and played on the PlayStation 5 (thank you Avery).
- For Sunday morning, Taylor, Nyx, and I went to Griffith Woods for an orchid hunt. We had eight target species and managed to find four of them, as well as an assortment of different wildflowers and insects too! Afterwards, Nyx and I went to Khao San Thai Kitchen on 17th Ave for lunch. For the rest of the evening, I went through photographs from our morning walk, read on the couch, listened to my vinyl records, and listened to the wind blowing outside.
- For books, I continued reading an assortment of books, though I had no focus for the week. As for video games, I continued to play Marathon obviously, but I also started playing two different puzzlers: Baba Is You and Patrick's Parabox.

👣 Taylor's Footnotes
- Did y'all know that June 16, 1991 was Calgary Pride's first ever parade? The idea that in such a short number of years being gay went from a crime, to something that would make you lose your job, to something that could provide me WITH a job, is truly such a trip. Being part of the professional queer working class doing a rainbow job is a joy I will never take for granted. Ensuring that Canada stays that safe harbour is everything.
- As such, I am putting out the good word that Calgary Pride is putting on a fundraiser party to benefit 5 groups on July 25th, called Indigo Nights! This event will also support Awowakiiks, Black Pride YYC, Safelink Alberta, and Stonewall Recovery. I would normally never plug a work thing through here, but it will be a lot of fun with food and entertainment! I do have a discount code to share (TOGETHER - code is only good until June 30th) as well - here is the link. Love y'all!
- Also! If you want to see Mother herself, I heard that Rupaul is playing at Cowboys this year 👀 and you can save yourself 20 bucks by using the code CALGARYPRIDE - doing so also supports us!
- I am shilling some info here because... well making money for Pride is my job, and this year every queer serving non-profit could use your help and support. Team, you know what to do with your Dani Dollars! <3
- On Sunday afternoon after seeing Nyx in the morning, I joined my parents, grandparents and Uncle Dan for an early Father's Day dinner. Unfortunately my Uncle Rand wasn't feeling up to hanging out with folks until after we got back, and I was grateful to see everyone. As ever, the closer it gets to Pride the harder it to balance my energies.
