✨ Happenings

  • As we enter the last few weeks of the school year, the science centre's busyness continues. I am looking forward to the summer time and a bit of a break (though not too much of one). Outside of work, I had a physio appointment, called Teegan and Avery to wish them happy birthdays, played Marathon with Avery, went bouldering with Katelyn and Taylor, and went to Oolong Tea House with Alexis, Bilan, and Lauren.
  • For most of the earlier parts of Friday, I puttered around doing chores and errands; including picking up a new pair of sneakers. By the afternoon, Taylor and I met up at City Hall for the anti-government protest and marched down toward the Mcdougall Centre for a brief rally. Afterwards, we biked to Oolong Tea House for a cold refreshment, but along the way, I unfortunately got into a bicycle accident. I fucked up my right leg and smashed my head on the pavement (my helmet saved my ass). The adrenaline from the crash carried me throughout much of the day (though once home, the pain greeted me again). In the early evening, we went to Riley Park for the largest local rally for the Alberta Federation of Labour's Day of Action. We met up with some friends and stayed for the speeches. The organizers solidified my feelings on the provinces' opposition to the UCP, but Gil should stop being a coward and just call a general strike. Leaving from Riley Park, Taylor and I joined Critical Mass for the first time this year. As far as protests go, it was the best of the three. MAGA lover and bike-lane hater Minister Devin Dreeshen can eat shit.
  • Given my injury the day prior, the rainy weather, and an unpleasant blah feeling, Taylor and I stayed home on Saturday and Sunday. I began reading my book on crossword puzzles, played Marathon, walked in our neighbourhood, enjoyed lots of snack foods, and beat Return of the Obra Dinn with Taylor.
  • For books, I finished reading K.C. Davis' How to Keep House While Drowning and started reading Natan Last's Across the Universe: The Past, Present, and Future of the Crossword Puzzle. As for video games, I continued to play Marathon, and Taylor and I beat Return of the Obra Dinn.

  • Our summer staff started this week! After much self-advocacy, I am very grateful to have my first ever coordinator, who will be working with me to create sponsorship contracts and craft grant writing applications, among many other admin tasks.
  • Fridays are no longer days off for me until mid September, and I am starting to get into longer work hours. As things ramp up, I am grateful for the grace and kindness of my family and friends who will need to put up with a bit of social absenteeism on my end. Love you all!
  • Also - after much cajoling - Chance got into Game Changer on Dropout a few months back, and I have been really enjoying watching it with him during dinner. I have also been playing The King is Watching in the evenings - would recommend to folks who enjoy somewhat mindless castle defender/resource management games!
