Disclaimer: It should be mentioned that Weeknotes are always a snapshot of the week itself and lack the fullness of life - as is the case with any personal blogging.

✨ Happenings

  • As far as the weather is concerned, we had another major spring snowstorm on Thursday that created some very dreadful road conditions. Though, it was effectively over within 48 hours and we received +20C temperatures on Sunday! Classic Calgary!
  • For Taylor and I's ninth anniversary of our first date, we went to Khao San Thai Kitchen on 17th Ave. ❤️ I had drunken noodles with a Thai iced tea with vegetable spring rolls.
  • On Wednesday, I went bouldering at Bolder Climbing Community with Alida, Mark, Krystal, Katelyn, and Macs. It was great to have such a large group of wonderful folks to hang out and climb with!
  • I was sick with a cold over the latter half of the week (my fucking sinuses). I mostly read about the partition of the British Raj on the couch and openly complained about being sick (not about Partition – just in case I have any lovers of Muhammad Ali Jinnah).
  • Going into the weekend, I was still feeling blah, but I started feeling a bit better. I managed to go on a few bike rides, but other than that, I stayed home to read and play Marathon. As far as novelty goes though, I made a blueberry simple syrup for iced espresso and matcha beverages.
  • For books, I finished reading Sam Dalrymple's Shattered Lands: Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia, and started reading a bunch of different books, as I do happen to have a lot of books out from the public library. We will have to see what I stick with reading going into next week!
  • As for video games, I continued to play Marathon. I love this game quite a lot and I have no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Finally a multiplayer FPS I can actually kick ass at. I also played Geoguesser with Dylan as a distraction from the cold (we did much better than I anticipated that we'd do).

👣 Taylor's Footnotes

  • When oh when will Taylor's footnotes be about something other than work! But alas, tis often when I am separated from my love!
  • This week, the team and I prepped to deliver a public forum on policing and pride. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, I am pleased to report that the event went very well. People largely left the event feeling closer to each other after having deep and meaningful conversations, which is genuinely more than I could have hoped for. Despite a week of migraines leading up to it (boo extreme weather changes!) and it taking up my whole weekend, it was worth it if we can make something that is authentically community led as a result of the research project.
  • Oh last thing - something not at all work related.
  • A little over a year ago Chance took initiative in helping us reorganize our home in a way that would work better for both of our brains. In a year, I can say that pretty much every routine in our life has been remade, eliminating barriers I didn't realize existed until they were gone. Things like, getting enough containers to ensure we could actually meal prep, buying a sunrise alarm clock so our mornings would start cheerily, getting us (finally) into a consistent bedtime routine so that we had better energy... and so many more. Even after 9 years together, I still find myself surprised and awed at how much better my life is because he's in it. <3
