✨ Chance's Happenings

  • And I continued onto the third week of the academic year. It feels like I am getting use to the rhyme of the work week. More tired in the evenings than my job prior, but that's to be expected. As for those work week evenings, Taylor and I joined Katelyn and Ang on Tuesday for a game of Root at their beautiful new home. On Friday, Alexis and I went to the café and took an evening stroll along 17th Ave.
  • On Saturday, Taylor and I spent the day at home around our neighbourhood. We started the morning with a walk to Butterblock Bakery for their new seasonal drinks and a couple pastries. After grocery shopping, we stayed at home and hung out doing our own activities. For myself, I played Stalker 2 in the living room for much of the day. In the evening, we played Civilization VII together.
  • For Sunday, Taylor and I had a very active and busy day. We started by going to the climbing gym with Katelyn, Ang, Alexis, and Alida (with empanadas afterwards). For the afternoon, James joined Taylor and myself for an autumn bike ride around Glenmore Reservoir. It was a fantastic and scenic adventure with a pitstop at Heritage Park for ice cream and a celebratory Yemeni feast once back in our neighbourhood. Always a treat to go on a bike ride – especially with loved ones.
  • For reading, I started reading Daniel Neep’s Syria: A Modern History. As for video games, I continued playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and our ongoing game of Sid Meier's Civilization VII with Taylor.

👣 Taylor's Footnotes

  • A quick lil note from ol' Taylor this week!
  • A small individual win for myself this week was finally trying out some of the lovely linocut tools I was gifted by my parents, Nana, and Grandpa for my birthday. I have attached a photo below - but no one show Nana! This is a little carving I am hoping to turn into a print for her birthday. I even tried my hand at carving onto some pink erasers, which seemingly worked okay. Getting back into crafting is a form of self-care work for me. When the goals of achieving anything are nebulous and hard to measure (both acutely right now, and just generally in life) being able to concretely and definitively PROVE that I accomplished making a THING is a genuine boost to all the happy brain chemicals.
carving of my attempt at a peony made of a ribbon?? and a simple flower stamp on an eraser + so much pink carnage
  • Also - I had a hard time replying to phone calls again this week. If YOU reading this are one of the wonderful people who have been reaching out and who I haven't replied to yet - I LOVE YOU and I will pick up the phone or text thread soon. I may be out and about in the world again with some more regularity but it's still only things not organized by me (thank you Chance for making sure I still get to see lovely people despite my current lack of ability!). At the best of times I struggle with this, and we're still riding this particular struggle bus. Chat soon!!!
